JULY UPDATE FROM SUNDAY ROSS
“It has been more than a week since my mom and I departed from the Philippines on June 29th to go to the U.S.A.! We had a short vacation in Hawaii before coming to Texas which was great. It’s always nice to get away from the big city of Manila and enjoy the fresh air and the sand between your toes. Some of the highlights of our trip included hiking Diamond Head, snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, and eating shave ice at North Shore. Now we are in Houston visiting my mom’s side of the family and next week we will head to Corpus Christi to visit my dad’s parents and my cousins. I’m really excited to visit all my relatives that I haven’t seen in nearly three years. Pray that the rest of my family in Manila are doing well while mom is gone.”
GET TO KNOW SUNDAY ROSS
Hi, I’m Sunday Ross! I was born in 1996 in Houston, Texas and lived there until May of 2003. At six years old, my family moved to the Philippines where I lived as a missionary kid until I was 17. From kindergarten through ninth grade I was homeschooled which gave me and my four siblings the flexibility to go places and experience many things. In tenth grade I entered Faith Academy, a Christian missionary kid school. Attending Faith Academy in Manila was great and I had the privilege of being a part of many extra-curricular activities including choir, drama, and ministry. Some of my other interests outside of school are having photo shoots with my friends, reading good books, blogging, traveling to new places, and listening to music.
SCHOOL AND DEGREE OF STUDY
One of my strengths academically is writing. In college, the major that I plan to study is Journalism and Integrated Media. This includes learning media skills for print media, television and radio, web media, and public relations, instruction in journalism, and photojournalism. No one knows what their future will hold beyond college, but my dream career is to work for National Geographic and travel around the world as a journalist and photographer! The school that I plan on going to is Biola University in La Mirada, California which is about thirty minutes from LA. I also plan to live on campus in the dorms.
COLLEGE EXPENSES
Our family income requires that I seek financial aid to attend college and I would like you to join me in praying about how you might have an impact on my life as I pursue my education.
Tuition – $32,142 annual
Dorm – $5,000 annual
Meal Plan – $4,000 annual
Books – $200-500 per semester
Health Insurance – $848 per semester
In addition to the standard categories of identifiable needs, of course there are always expenses in college and if you would like to help with my recreation, living expense, movies or trips to the coffees shop to study, read and socialize, that line item would be greatly appreciated as well.
